Over the weekend of March 25 and 26, Hayes Farm saw the birth of a new black angus calf. Sophomore Emily Morris assisted with the birth of several calves. She has been working with them, getting the opportunity to “sit and pet a few of the calves,” something she said felt very good. She also was able to name this year’s calf Dakota—whom she is training to show her at fairs this summer and fall. Morris said that black angus cattle are not the friendliest, as she was kicked by Dakota’s mother when she was trying to take a picture. But, she added, Dakota is very friendly.
