What inspired you to pursue teaching? 

“So, when I was in seventh grade, I decided I wanted to be a teacher. I think what motivated me to pursue this field was my desire to help kids. At first, I didn’t know what grade level, but I eventually decided on high school because I thought it provided the opportunity to have real conversations and stronger connections with the students.” 

Can you provide a quick description of the course you are teaching? 

“Yes, I teach 9th grade science. We cover topics ranging from space where there is a focus on planetary motion, to specifically covering the Earth and tectonic plate shifting, all the way into the environment where we cover issues like climate change.”

“I find that this course is beneficial for students as it builds the foundations of science literacy. This is important for students so that they are able to build on their critical thinking skills to help combat misinformation out in the world.” 

What attracted you to Rocky Hill High School? 

“I was previously teaching in the technical high school system, but actually my husband worked here. He loved Rocky Hill and the community here so when I saw that there was an opening I knew that I would be in good hands.”

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

“Let’s see. That’s a bit of a difficult one. I’m trying to decide between getting my masters degree in Special Education and a grant I received called the Unsung Heroes award. At my previous school I was able to use this grant to get supplies to do DNA fingerprinting which was pretty cool!”

What is the most challenging aspect of your job? 

“Keeping up with grading. It’s a lot.” 

If you were stranded on a deserted island what are the things that you would bring?

“I feel like bringing a cell phone would be a waste because you wouldn’t be able to get service. So I feel like matches and pictures of my family are what I would choose to bring.”

What’s your favorite tv show/movie?

“I don’t know if I have a specific favorite movie or tv show. But, I do enjoy watching superhero movies.”

What was/would have been your high school superlative?

“Friendliest”

Do you have a secret talent?

“I don’t have anything that’s a typical secret talent. However, I think it would have to be buying really good presents for people. I know it’s a really random thing but I put a lot of thought and care behind it.”

What were you like during highschool? 

“I was a fairly good student. I was involved in a lot of sports and clubs. Actually back then I thought I wanted to be a kindergarten teacher but then later on I realized after working in a daycare that I would probably be better suited with older kids.”

What quality do you admire most in others?

“I admire confidence and the ability to stand up for yourself.”
