While many students are pursuing a four-year degree, others have joined a more patriotic pursuit. Four seniors, including Nathan Gamache, Colby Mitney, Tyler Brodeur, and Joseph Malerba, have joined the U.S. Military under different departments.

“Since I was young I have always wanted to serve the country, people, and the Constitution.  My family is very patriotic and honor driven, which is why I decided to join the oldest and largest fighting force in the US,” Mitney reflected.

Mitney, who has chosen to be a combat medic, hopes to help others who are in life threatening situations on the battlefield.

Malerba, after greeting me with a firm handshake, stated that he did not always know he wanted to go into the Army, but had always considered serving as his grandfather was an Air Force veteran. It was another senior, Mitney, whose enlistment ignited the flame within Malerba. He has enlisted as a Military Police officer (31B).

“You just have so many options whether it be in your career or personal life that the army opens up to you, as well as on the civilian side, ” Malerba added.

Both Mitney and Malerba agreed and urged everyone to look into the advantages and benefits the Army offers.

“The army is an excellent opportunity to further your career and develop your character,” Mitney said, “I highly recommend everyone look into the US Army.”

Malerba added a new perspective.

“The army has been striving to move towards a more professional environment…it is a nice place to work. Basic training is not as hard as it is made out to be,” Malerba urged, “It is well worth it. You learn a lot about yourself.”
