The Class of 2023 planned a dance on Feb. 17 for juniors and seniors. The pink posters lined every wall stating that tickets would be available for five dollars starting Feb. 10 through Feb. 11.

However, just a few days ago, tickets opened to underclassmen due to a lack of responses from upperclassmen, especially seniors. This was an interesting phenomena since the general consensus among seniors was that they had been robbed of many senior privileges and activities.

It seems that most of the lack of attendance will simply be due to the timing. “It was planned out of nowhere, and I didn’t have enough time to plan my outfit, who I am going with, or anything,” said senior Matt Mitchell.

No one wants to be a fashion disaster when one of the best parts are the Instagram pictures. “I don’t want to spend money on an outfit when prom is coming up, and I am broke,” added Maria Corcoran.

Other seniors are simply busy.

Gillian Fernstrom said, “The dance is the day of break, and besides, I have work.” Brian Proko agreed saying, “I have work.” Marina Perry said while she would love to go and appreciate all the hard work that was put in, “I have throwing practice which I need to go to because I have the State Open Championship on Saturday.”

Iman Shaikh had a slew of things to share, “For starters, late notice. Two, it gives middle school vibes, and I personally do not want to go out and put the effort in.” Emily Olmstead nodded in agreement while Stuti Desai added, “Maybe if it wasn’t a Valentine’s Dance, I would go.”

Some seniors are just tired after college applications, work, and senioritis. “I want to go home and sleep,” Disha Parikh answered when asked why she wasn’t going.

Interestingly, however, most of the other answers were oddly similar: I would go if other people went, begging the question: who are these other people?
