The Rocky Hill High School Drama Production returns after a one-year disruption due to Covid-19.

This year’s musical production is Joseph and the Technicolor Dream–a modern take on the Old Testament story of Jacob being betrayed by his brothers and ultimately sold into slavery. Joseph discovered that he had the ability to foreshadow dreams, giving him prowess among those around him.

Emerson Maddock is cast to Play Pharoah, a Elvis-esque character and Joseph’s brother.

“He’s an energetic and fun character, so I am excited to embody the role.” Maddock said.

Despite his eagerness to perform, the senior and production manager acknowledges some of the challenges with a one year hiatus for the group.

“It’s been hard to get the process started again because we lost a lot of momentum with not having the show last year because of the pandemic. But I think that being said, there is a fresh motivation among the group, ready to get back on stage” Maddock described.

Nonetheless, Covid-19 and the correlating restrictions are affecting the group.

“We got our parts back, and we were waiting for the ‘okay’ to start practices,” Maddock said.

With the continued prevalence of Covid-19 cases, Maddock admitted “I am definitely nervous, because you don’t know what will happen. Practice is certainly the most important part to a good show so for there to be unknowns surrounding that is nerve taking. I think it’s important just to get started.”

This past week the group has begun rehearsals with a range of social distancing and mask wearing protocols to follow and a formal timeline is finally underway.

“Whatever ends up happening, I just hope the show is able to go on.”
